List of Countries in Africa [Updated]

Africa is the second most populated continent of the world and the second-largest continent by land area. Being separated from Europe from the north through the Mediterranean Sea and Suez Canal separates it from Asia. Surrounded by the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean from east and southeast, and west respectively, Africa encompasses several islands to its proximity as well.

The major portion of Africa comes in the tropical region making it a hot continent. Minerals and other resources are also found in this culture-rich continent. Additionally, there are some of the world’s largest fossil fuel reserves, gems and precious metals in this continent.

When it comes to culture and languages, then Africa is one of those lucky places where people get to witness diversity. With over 1500 spoken languages, Africa becomes home to great ethnicities. Diversity only among humans is not what Africa is witnessing. With creatures like lions, snakes, leopards, elephants, and buffalo, Africa is rich in animal species as well.

At present, there are 54 independent states in Africa. Algeria is the largest country by land in Africa which is responsible for 7% of the total continent land. The least contributing country of land in Africa is Seychelles which is just 459-kilometre square. When talking about its population, then entire Africa holds over 1.2 billion people. The country with the highest people living in it is Nigeria.

Even though Africa is the second-largest continent and the second most populous continent, still it holds less than 11% of the world’s population. However, the hop temperatures make it difficult for the people immigrants to adapt. When it comes to popular sports, then cricket and football are among the most popular sports on the continent. Africa has hosted a world cup tournament for both the sports.
